2022 Board of Directors
Bryan Lankester, President
I spent 8 years in the Aviation Industry as a Helicopter Pilot, before joining Imperial Oil as Aviation Manager for Eastern Canada which provided insight into aviation
companies across Canada. After leaving Imperial, we moved to Calgary and progressed into the Midstream Crude Oil Pipeline business. , and started a new Midstream
business in Manitoba and Saskatchewan called Tundra Energy Marketing in 2005 till 2018. I have been a Director at CFC since 2017 and have held roles in Governance and
Building Expansion. I unfortunately don’t own a helicopter my first love, but enjoy my Cessna TTx flying around Canada.
Paul Holscher, Vice President
I have been a member since approx. 1984, a lifetime member since 2003 and a Sustaining Member for the past 5 years. I have volunteered at several club events, including
pub nights, Corn Roasts and Stampede breakfasts. Recently, I have sat on the Building Task Force to help determine the short-, medium- and long-term building and
infrastructure needs of the club. Through my involvement with the club, I have gained an appreciation of the unique needs of a not-for-profit organization. I am an active
private pilot and after renting from the club for about 30 years, I purchased a 50% share of a 182RG in 2016 and enjoy taking the plane on day trips around Alberta,
Saskatchewan and BC as well as an annual trip to Colorado. My career in real estate and hospitality has included over 25 years working in and owning mountain resorts
such as Emerald Lake Lodge and Kootenay Park Lodge and investing in commercial real estate. I have also worked for 17 years as a commercial property manager, project
manager and safety officer (I hold an NCSO designation).
Jim Williams, Treasurer
I am a Chartered Accountant and a lawyer. I graduated from Concordia University in Montreal with a Bachelor of Commerce, Honours in Accountancy, and also have a
Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. I have been a Chartered Accountant since 1977, and a member of the Law Society of Alberta since 1981.
I have been a member of the Calgary Flying Club for about 30 years and obtained my private and commercial licenses with the Club back in the mid-1990s. While no longer
an active pilot, I am still committed to the Club. I previously served on the Board of the Club from 1996- 2001, and was the Club’s President in 2000-2001. Before becoming
President, I served as the Club’s Treasurer.
Jake Hoeppner, Secretary
I am General Counsel for Longview Aviation, a company with interests in aircraft manufacturing, aviation asset management and flight training. I hold a commercial pilot's
license with multi-IFR and seaplane ratings. Currently I enjoy flying the CFC's Citabria after having recently completed the check-out. I have extensive Board experience and
I've been a member of the CFC for several years. CFC has a great legacy, a bright future and is well positioned to continue as an industry leader. I am excited to contribute to
the CFC in a leadership position and welcome the opportunity to serve the community.
Mark Kent, Chief Compliance Officer
My passion for aviation stemmed from my involvement with flying in a most unusual way. I was the British Columbia Junior Parachuting Champion in 1979 and 1980, and
yes, I learned to jump out of perfectly good airplanes, helicopters, and Caribou about 280 times. Wilf and Yvonne Hirning (the Hirning Award at CFC) were one of my first
clients back in 1985 and a couple of days after Wilf’s passing his wife Yvonne handed me an enrollment form for the Calgary Flying Club Private Pilot ground school. I
promptly signed up and joined the Club as a student back in 2003. I obtained my Night Rating, VFR OTT, and IFR over the years and continue to fly to this day. I have just
under 1500 hours and currently own a 2008 Mooney Acclaim with all of the gadgets. Up until a few years ago I participated in many CFC Saturday Sorties, often taking our
students with me to show them the capabilities of a more complex, faster aircraft than their tried and true C 172s they were training in! This is something that I would be
interested in getting involved with again, to generate more sense of belonging at the Club with my fellow aviation enthusiasts and students.
Michael Anderson, Director
I joined the Calgary Flying Club to pursue the passion of flying with other local pilots. I decided early on not to be like one of my early plane partners that had over 600 hours
without ever flying West of Canmore. A large percentage of my 1,500+ hours has been mountain flying to the West and South of YBW. Not long after becoming a Sustaining
Member at the CFC, I joined the Board of Directors to help provide direction on member flying and rejuvenating the Calgary Flying Club as a centre of lifelong aviation from
student flights to retirement dreams. Accordingly, my goals for the Calgary Flying Club are to ensure the long standing traditions of top notch flight instruction and also
foster a passion for flight in pilots that return to the Club. Whether as recreational flyers or commercial Captains that return to their aviation roots; each of whom are proud
to say they are active members of the Calgary Flying Club.
Lenora Crane, Director
I am currently the President of Aerobatics Canada and own shares in two aircraft and am helping my husband build another. With my 45 years in aviation, I would have
much to bring to the Club. I have owned and operated my own flight school and charter company as well as held management positions in others. With my 25 years in
Transport Canada, I can advise the board on the legalities of flight training since it was my specialty when I was there.
Katherine Juhasz, Director
I have been a pilot for 9 years, having received my license in Medicine Hat through the Air Cadet program. After that I started flying out of Springbank through Fly Right, then
the Air Training College and have finally found a home at the Calgary Flying Club. I enjoy the sense of community within the Flying Club, with the different events and
activities that are offered throughout the year. I am a recent Lifetime Member. As an electrical engineer I design control systems. Through my work I volunteer for the
children's Christmas party, STEM days and other activities. The Air Cadet program was how I got my license and many other great experiences. Currently I work with and
mentor our Level 4 cadets, who are high school aged, and are looking to becoming the leaders within our squadron.
Dane Patton, Director
I am lawyer with Gowling WLG in Calgary primarily practicing in construction law and also have a developing aviation law practice. I moved to Calgary 1.5 years ago from
Edmonton after graduating with a JD and a MBA from the University of Alberta. I have been enthusiastically flying for 11 years and was previously a member of the Namao
Flying Club for 10 years before moving to Calgary and joining the Calgary Flying Club. I recently qualified on the club’s Citabria.
Shane Pelechaty, Director
I am an enthusiastic pilot and have over 750 hours of flying time since earning my PPL in 2012. I have a clean, low-time Cessna 172 XP based at CYBW and enjoy flying
friends and family around Western Canada and into the States. Most recently, I was fortunate to have the plane with me at KIWS in Houston during a short term work
assignment, where we had an awesome time exploring the Gulf Coast region and southwest US (with ADSB!). I am a geologist by training and have had a variety of roles with
Shell companies around the world, and am currently the Chief Geoscientist for the Shales business in the Americas. I am happy to have been given the opportunity to serve
on the board of directors and I would like to give back to the flying community, which has been an important part of my life over the past 10 years. I would like to be part of
building a healthy and happy flying community for all pilots and their varied missions.
Andrew Schultz, Director
After growing up in Niagara, Ontario and finishing school I moved out to Vancouver to start up a Sears Heating and Cooling Division, after 1 year I decided to relocate to
Calgary where I then started up another few locations in Alberta where I grew to 15 Trucks and over 40 employees. After 25 years of growing the business I had to change
the name to Alberta Indoor Clean Air after SEARS closed in 2017. In 2019 I decided to sell the Shares due to changing market conditions. I got my PPC licence at the Calgary
Flying Club in 2007. After this I got the bug and got a Cessna 172S, a hanger, and a cabin on an airstrip in Montana. I quickly realized that I need more power to get over the
mountains so in 2009 I got a Turbo 182. Then I realized I needed my IFR so I got that later in 2009. In 2012 I decided to further my flying and got my Commercial, and Float
Ratings. In 2019 prior to Covid I got my MULTI-IFR. Now I sit with over 2500hrs and lots of stories. I was on the CFC board for about 8 years and lead many Saturday Sorties
and Group trips to OSH KOSH, Mexico and The Bahamas. My wife Carole and 8 year old Son Noah also love to fly with me. We do allot of Plane Glamping in the summer
along with the yearly LLC ice fly in. My longest trip was in a NEW T182 from Edmonton to Argentina along the Pacific coast the whole way. I now have extra time as I am able
to do my Consulting work from home. Aviation is in my blood and I look forward to helping other future aviators and doing what I can to help out in the community.
