After the blackout, whiteout: First snowfall of 2011
Photos by Pierson Sun Sta
O
n January 12th, Pier-
sonites awoke to a
whimsical winter
wonderland (or, for the pes-
simists out there, a freaking
inconvenient tundra). With the
snow came a urry of emails an-
nouncing class cancellations and
building closings, giving some a
bona de snow day.
Piersonites spent the day
building snow forts, snow
castles, snowmen, and even a
crumbling, crooked 8 foot col-
umn of snow - a leaning tower
of Pisa perhaps?
But snow can be a vicious en-
emy as well as a furry friend, as
several Piersonites learned. One
Piersonite lost his keys in the
midst of a snowball ght, lead-
ing to a ashlight search party
later in the night. A second un-
lucky Piersonite is yet to recover
from her i.d. snapping in two in
the midst of a rather ferocious
winter battle.
Pierson Sun Tip: remove
important articles from pockets
before frolicking in malicious
crystals of frozen water.
Top: Pierson Tower and the York Street entrance aer a sunny day, marked by Piersonites’ boots, shoes... and the occasional ip-op.
Right: Series of vignettes depicting Piersons courtyard; the Colleges benches and tables stood no chance against Mother Natures labors.
Bottom: e morning aer the storm, Yale’s courageous groundskeeping personnel was hard at work clearing 19 inches of snow.
1) Build an ice rink in Pierson courtyard.
2) Build a giant bulldog (use food coloring to dye the snow)
3) Traditional Traying at the Div School
4) Igloos and snow tunnels. My mom used to tell me these
were dangerous and could collapse on you and kill you; I
dont believe her and you shouldnt either.
5) Plan a winter blitzkrieg on Davenport – a little bit of
organization could go a long way
To-do list: Next snow day

ecause
you
all have or
should have
already seen
these movies, we will spare you
the story and instead, go with a
more… unorthodox approach.
e Princess Bride
INCONCIEVABLE! You
haven’t seen it yet? Well, if
you've been mostly-dead all
day, I would recommend a
good dose of Princess Bride.
Love, ghts, love, giants, love,
HUMOR – its got it all. You
want to borrow it now? AS
YOU WISH! A word of advice:
if you have six ngers, stay
away from Inigo Montoya.
Beauty & the Beast
Yale-style: Its a tale as old as
time, true as it can be. Belle
is a Yale student. Probably is
Pierson. You actually. You love
to read, you are damn hot (well
youre in Pierson, duh), you are
adventurous and want to see
the world. e Beast is the class
you took because you thought
it was a gut. Boy, were you
wrong. It is soooo complex.
But as you get to know it, you
fall in love with the complexity
and the subject begins to fas-
cinate you. All the people you
know are like: “WHYYY would
you EVER take that class! You
should drop it! It should be
banned from the Yale curricu-
lum!” But aer you defend it,
work harder than ever before
and explore new territory, it
transforms into the most won-
derful class by announcing it
has a trip to an exotic location,
all expenses
paid. And all
your friends
are SOOO
jealous. Yep.
Belle and the Beast are the best
combo around. Now go freshen
up on the Disney-ed story.
Monty Python & e
Holy Grail
RUN AWAY! Noooo, not from
that uy white bunny. Aww
aren't you cu...GAAAHHHH!
He ate my hand o!Anyway,
run away from your homework
for a night to see one of the
most entertaining movies of all
time one, two or ve, ('three
my lord')three times! Tim
the enchanter says “Despite
the poor reviews by Sir Not
Appearing in this Movie, I give
this movie two thumbs up, and
only recommend you stay away
from the *bunny*”.
When Harry Met Sally
We college kids know how
complicated relationships can
be, whether they’re simple
budding friendships, Freshman
Screw dates, or that guy across
the room at that party last
night. It doesn’t help that were
young and still not that far
from puberty and high school
drama! So the question is, in
the real world, how the heck
are we supposed to go about
nding love? And can a guy
and girl ever “just” be friends?
In this unusual romantic com-
edy full of witty, memorable
quotes and a fake orgasm, we
were happy to go along with
the ride and watch this rela-
tionship change over time.

PSAC & PCC 2011
The fun continues!
W
ith the start of a new
calendar year, Pierson
Student Activity Committee
(PSAC) has experienced a
changing of the guard. Aer
a fantastic year with MC Mill-
er (’11) and Laura Kling (’12)
as the chairs, Rhia Catapano
and Adam
George (’12)
have been
selected to
be our fear-
less leaders.
Michael

will also be
stepping
down aer
a produc-
tive year as PCC president.
He will be replaced by Jared
Middleman (’13) with Yoon-
joo Lee (’12) continuing as
secretary.
e new team, fueled by its
always reliable PSAC-ers and
PCC-ers, has
great plans
for the com-
ing semester.
According
to Sandra
Atkins, Pier-
sons service
assistant,
and the new
chairs, we
have multi-
ple delicious

coming
up. Piersonites can expect a
study break with hot wings
and soda to celebrate the
Super Bowl (go Patriots!) on
February 6th. Also, keeping
up with tradition, Pierson
will hold an Oscar Party,
where you can vote for who
will win in the major catego-
ries. We’ll have your favorite
movie snacks, from popcorn
to Mike and Ikes, and you can
partake in our
annual Oscar
Ballot to win
some sweet
prizes. Oh!
And don’t for-
get about Pier-

olive oil, and tomatoes! Que

Finally, we have our an-
nual Pierson Day to look
forward to, where, last year,
Piersonites fought for glory
in a giant handmade vat of
yellow Jell-O.
Piersonites
have a lot to
look forward
to during this
next semester.
If you
want to join
PSAC, they
have meetings
every Tuesday
at 9 in the
Pierson semi-
