E-Cigarettes and Vaping
Parents a recent CDC survey has shown that 1 out of 5 high school students have used a vape
or e-cigarette in the past 30 days. That number is 1 out of 20 for middle school students. We
have unfortunately started to see this trend as well. I have included information on Vaping that
Halal Meals Now Being
Offered at Kirk
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Christina School District is excited to announce that beginning on
January 9, we will offer menu items that include halal-certied and halal-suitable meal options
for our students at the following schools:
Gallaher Elementary
Marshall Elementary
Kirk Middle School
Middle School Honors Academy at CHS
Christiana High School
In preparation for the launch of the new Halal meal options, we are asking parents to let us
know if their child(ren) may be interested in participating by completing the Halal Meal
Options Interest Form. Students can request Halal-approved entrees upon entering the serving
line.
For students who attend the schools mentioned above, a separate halal menu will be available
so that students and parents know exactly what meal options are available every month. Click
here to view the January 2023 Halal Breakfast and Lunch Menu.
Halal is Arabic for permissible. For meat to be considered Halal, the animal from which the
meat is sourced must have been prepared and handled according to Islamic law.
If you have any questions, please contact our Child Nutrition Services department at
childnutrtion@christina.k12.de.us or (302) 454-2400, ext. 43200.

common so I do encourage all families of all ages to have a talk with your child about the
harms of this trend.

back with a production of Alice in Wonderland! Follow the
White Rabbit down the rabbit hole with Alice to meet the
colorful characters of Wonderland including the Caterpillar, the
Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts, and the Mad Hatter. Shows

Tickets will be available in March using ShowTix4U.
Jurdy at Kirk
Jurdy and his friends came to Kirk Middle School to spread his
message of happiness and promote positive student
interactions. Students learned lessons about choosing to be kind
to one another and how to deal with bullying both in person and
online. During the assembly, students were asked how many
students spend 1 -3 hours a day on social media sites and almost every hand was up showing
the importance of teaching our students how to be kind both in person and online. The
students really enjoyed this presentation and we were glad to bring Jurdy and his friends to
Kirk Middle School.
By speaking to children in their own “language, Jurdy is able to grab their attention and
strongly impact their daily decisions to make healthy choices, like FAMFriends Always
Motivate, BFF—Bullies Fizzle Fast, SUP—Speak Up and CHILL—Choose Happy. It’s Loving Life.
With warm hearted, energizing pep rallies and community events, children are quickly adopting
the Jurdy philosophy of happy-ness
Congratulations to our 1st Marking
Period Honor Students!

Christina Goes Cashless for Athletic
Tickets
Effective Friday, December 2, Christina School District middle and high schools are moving to
an online payment system for tickets to athletic events. This currently only pertains to girls
and boys’ basketball games. Wrestling, swimming, and diving will not require a ticket.
The new online ticketing program, MSB Tickets, allows patrons to buy event tickets in
advance. Tickets will no longer be sold at the door. Please keep this in mind as you invite
family and friends.
ALL TICKETS must be purchased online. You may print your ticket and present it upon entry or
use the QR Code on your cell phones as tickets, which will be sent after purchase. No sign-in
is required to use the ticket system.
Ticket sales will close at 12:00 pm the day of the game.
The move to cashless ticket sales does not apply to the concession stands. All concession
stands will continue to accept cash at this time.
More information, including the websites for purchasing tickets for upcoming events, is
coming soon.
Bus Transportation News
Dear Christina Families,
Christina School District values the welfare and safety of our
students. Christina and surrounding school districts are
experiencing severe bus driver shortages due to a national and
regional driver shortage. Our Transportation staff will make every effort to arrive timely, and
we appreciate your patience as we work to adjust schedules to ensure students are
transported safely.
What does this mean for you and your family? Christina will need to increase double back”
bus runs. This means that a bus is required to run multiple scheduled routes back-to-back that
would normally have been covered by separate buses. These “double backs” may impact
delivery time to schools or bus stops. We encourage parents to sign up for WherestheBus, as
we continually strive to provide the best possible transportation service.
How can I get updates? Christina School District school buses are equipped with GPS
technology - WheresTheBus app, a user-friendly school bus tracking system that will precisely
identify where the student’s assigned bus is and when it will arrive at his/her assigned bus
Thank you for supporting Christina School District athletics.
New Online Attendance Form
Greetings Kirk Families and Friends,
Christina School District is delighted to announce the launch of a new and improved online
attendance form for Christina students. The new form will simplify–and speed up–the
absence reporting process for all. It will be available on Monday, October 24.
Submitting a student absence has never been easier, thanks to our new online attendance
form! With our new website comes a new absence form that allows parents/guardians to
submit absences online and upload documents, notes, etc.
If your child is absent for any reason, it is important that you let your child’s school know the
reason for the absence. Parents/guardians have up to ve (5) days to provide proper
documentation for excusable absences. When your child returns to school, you must do one
of the following, or the absence may be marked as “unexcused.
· Complete the Online Form, which will be emailed to the school oce OR
· Send a dated and signed excuse note to the school oce stating the reason for the absence

through some of our challenges with transportation. Our goal is to serve every one of our
students and our families with safe, ecient transportation.
Please be assured that we are working hard to recruit qualied bus drivers and to plan
transportation that will be as ecient as possible.

School Uniforms
In many public school districts where uniform dress codes have been established, school
ocials have found that school uniforms:
enhance school safety
improve the learning environment
bridged socioeconomic differences between children
promoted good behavior
improved children's self-respect and self-esteem
produced cost savings for participating families
The decision to implement a uniform code is about equity and high standards of achievement.
In order for our students to reach the high standards we have set for them, we must create
environments where they receive challenging instruction, and are held accountable for their
dress, behavior, and personal success.
Please note that students will not be permitted to wear hoodies in school. Students may wear
crew neck sweatshirts, sweaters & cardigans in their grade level colors.
