Traveling with Washington State Ferries
Washington State Ferries serves nine dierent routes,
from Point Deance near Tacoma in the southern Puget
Sound, north to the San Juan Islands, and Sidney, Brish
Columbia in Canada. Washington State Ferries is your
marine highway. All of our ferries carry both vehicles
and passengers with travel mes varying by route from
15 minutes to over three hours. Generally, vehicles are
boarded on a rst-come, rst-served basis but the can vary
on mul-desnaon routes.
Vehicles should be at the terminal and in line at least 30
minutes prior to departure to ensure geng through the
toll booths. During peak travel mes, travelers should
arrive at least 60 minutes in advance of departure. Some
routes cease loading two minutes before departure.
WSF carries all vehicles and trucks under 80,000 lbs gross
vehicle weight.
WSF accepts cash, credit cards and traveler’s checks (U.S.
only) for payment of travel.
Reservaons
A reservaon is a way for a vehicle to save a spot on a few
ferry routes. These routes include:
Port Townsend/Coupeville
Anacortes/San Juan Islands (Friday Harbor, Orcas Island,
Shaw Island, Lopez Island).
A vehicle reservaon is not a cket. It has no cost unless you
no show - If you do not show up, you will be charged a fee. If
you make mulple reservaons and only use one, you will be
charged a no-show fee for the unused reservaon(s).
P
urchase your ckets online or when you arrive at the
terminal or tollbooth to pay your fare.
Vehicle reservaons are not required, but are strongly
recommended - Limited stand-by space is available on all
sailings.
Vehicle reservaons are one way - Be sure to make
reservaons for both your outbound and return trips. Please
note that there are no reservaons eastbound deparng
Shaw or Lopez Island to Anacortes. All vehicles are loaded
rst-come rst-served from these terminals.
Reservaons are for vehicles only - Walk-on passengers and
those bringing bicycles can buy a cket online or pay when
you arrive.
