What types of insurance coverage do you
offer?
Ing & McKee Insurance offers a wide range of
coverage options, including auto insurance, home
insurance, renters insurance, business insurance, and
more. We can tailor a policy to meet your specific
needs.
How often should I review and update my
insurance policy?
It’s a good idea to review and update your insurance
policy annually or whenever significant life events
occur, such as moving, buying a new car, or
renovating your home. Regular reviews help ensure
your coverage aligns with your current needs and
circumstances.
What factors affect the cost of my insurance
premium?
Several factors impact your insurance premium,
including your age, driving record, location, type
of coverage, and more. We’ll assess your individual
circumstances to determine your premium.
Can I bundle multiple insurance policies
together?
Yes, we offer bundle discounts when you combine
multiple policies, such as auto and home insurance.
Bundling can help you save money while simplifying
your insurance coverage.
Do you offer insurance for recreational
vehicles, such as boats or motorcycles?
Yes, we offer insurance coverage for recreational
vehicles, including boats, motorcycles, RVs, and
more. We can help protect your valuable assets
while you enjoy your leisure time.
How does insurance coverage work for rental
cars?
Physical damage coverage for a rental vehicle can
come from several different sources. The coverage
chosen will depend on the circumstances, rental
duration, drivers, etc. In some situations, rental
coverage may be unavailable, such as with U-hauls
and recreational vehicles.
Another tip: check with your credit card company for
car rental insurance coverage if you use the card for
the rental.
The best practice when booking the rental is to figure
out the following:
1. The current value of the vehicle you are renting
(rental agency should be able to provide this).
2. Duration of the rental.
3. Drivers you plan to have using the vehicle when
you are away.
4. Options that the rental company offers for
coverage – we can use this info to help figure
out what you need/don’t need.
5. For a very reasonable annual premium, we can
add rental car insurance to your auto policy
that will provide the coverage you want in most
situations, at a much lower cost than the rental
car company.
Is ride sharing considered a commercial use
and should it be disclosed?
The ride sharing coverage is usually provided by the
ride sharing company while the driver is actively
working. This coverage is known as the SPF-9 policy,
and it is held by the ride-sharing company itself, not
the individual driver. When the driver is not actively
working, their personal auto policy will come into
effect to provide coverage.
1. It’s important for drivers to disclose their ride
sharing activities to their insurance provider, as
increased kilometres driven for work purposes
may need to be taken into account.
2. It’s worth noting that this coverage applies
specifically to app-based ride sharing services
where the parent company holds an SPF9 policy.
If the ride sharing activities are not covered by
such a policy, they may be rated as taxi services
instead.
3. The driver cannot do both Uber and Uber Eats
under a personal rating even if they are both
under the “Uber” platform.
4. Taxis are not considered ride sharing and require
commercial rating and insurance.
Is delivering food through platforms like Uber
Eats or Skip considered commercial use?
Yes, delivering food through platforms like Uber Eats
or Skip is considered commercial use. It falls under
the same category as pizza or take-away delivery.
Therefore, it is necessary to disclose this activity
to your insurance provider and obtain appropriate
commercial insurance coverage to ensure you
are adequately protected while engaging in these
services.
Can I make changes to my policy mid-term?
Yes, you can make changes to your policy mid-term.
Simply reach out to your broker, and we’ll assist you
with any updates or adjustments you need to make.
What is the process for adding a new driver to
my policy?
To add a new driver to your policy, contact our
customer service team and provide the necessary
information about the driver, such as their name, date
of birth, and driving history. We’ll update your policy
accordingly.
Does it cost more to insure a red vehicle?
Contrary to popular belief, the colour of your vehicle
does not directly impact your insurance premiums.
Insurance companies primarily consider factors such
as the make, model, year, and mileage of the vehicle,
as well as the driver’s age, driving history, and location.
What happens if I want to cancel my insurance
policy?
If you decide to cancel your policy, please contact
your broker. We’ll guide you through the cancellation
process and answer any questions you may have.

As insurance brokers, our role is not only to provide
coverage but also to offer valuable advice to our
clients. We want to emphasize the importance of
understanding the factors involved in insuring homes,
rented dwellings, farm and commercial buildings,
automobiles and other personal property. Here, we
will share some essential insights to help you make
informed decisions.
Regular Assessments: To ensure accurate coverage,
we recommend you review the value with your broker.
New Insurance-To-Value (ITV) assessments should be
reviewed every five years or sooner. These assessments
use things like home size and construction features
to determine an approximate reconstruction value
for your home. If you have done or will be doing any
modifications or improvements that increase your
homes value by $5,000 or more, please contact your
broker to discuss as this could affect your Guaranteed
Replacement Cost.
Rented Dwellings & Older Homes: For homes insured
on an Actual Cash Value (ACV) basis, depreciation
and wear/tear on the home factors into all claims
settlements. For homes on a Replacement Cost
settlement basis, the maximum claim amount for a
total loss can be capped at the limit of insurance on
the policy. In both cases completing an ITV assessment
and having a value discussion with your broker is
vital. Policies with these settlement options don’t
have the same safety net as a home with Guaranteed
Replacement, so even more of a “hands-on” approach
to reviewing value is necessary.
Tenants/Condo/Contents Policies: These policies
can be challenging to figure out since everyone has
different stuff. The majority of these policies are
based on replacement cost. So, when figuring out your
policy limits, you must factor in the new cost, not the
acquisition cost. If you bought a couch for $200 at
a garage sale and it is destroyed in a fire, the policy
needs to replace the couch with something new,
similar to your previous couch in size and quality. That
is definitely going to cost more than the $200 you
originally spent.
The best question to ask: if you lost everything you
owned in a fire tomorrow, what size of cheque do you
need to repurchase everything immediately? Tools
like the personal inventory (see link at the end of the
article) can be helpful to figure out what you need
to insure for, and when in doubt, aim high. Increased
coverage limits are usually inexpensive and can provide
a buffer. Most of us have more stuff than we realize.
Don’t forget the junk drawer!
Appraisals and Coverage Limits: For valuable
possessions like jewellery, fine arts, collectables,
unique items, bicycles or other “limited” items within
your policy, extra attention is required to the values
assigned. While appraisals may not always be
mandatory, it’s important to reassess the value of
these items regularly.
Farm and Commercial Buildings: Unlike residential
properties, farm and commercial buildings do not
typically benefit from Guaranteed Replacement Cost
(GRC). Ensure regular updates on these properties,
taking into account factors such as debris removal.
Your broker can complete a replacement cost estimate
called a BVS to help you determine what it would cost
to haul away the debris and replace the structure. For
a more detailed assessment, getting a professional
appraisal or quote from a contractor on rebuilding is
even better.
Automobiles: The default claim settlement for
automobiles for total loss (write-off) claims is Actual
Cash Value, which factors in things like current market
value and wear/tear. However, some vehicles may be
eligible for an improved claim settlement. For classic
cars, obtaining appraisals is highly recommended.
Brand new vehicle? Opting for replacement cost
coverage provides improved settlement options for
up to five years. In cases where replacement cost
coverage is unavailable, consider adding limited waiver
coverage. Disclose any modifications or customizations
made to the vehicle and keep receipts as proof.
Not sure when to call? Common triggers:
Home Renovation
Major Purchase
Updates to items like: roofing, plumbing, heating,
electrical and hot water systems
New Construction
If you have any questions or need further discussion,
please contact your dedicated broker.
Your trust and satisfaction are our top priorities!

Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes: Tina Brenner
8 tbsp butter or
margarine
1 large onion chopped
or
sliced thinly into rings
4 cups milk
1 1/2 cup cheese
6 medium-sized
potatoes
8 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper (we like
pepper, could reduce

it will take on a thin paste-like consistency and will be lightly
bubbling.
Add milk. Whisking constantly until boiling. Add cheese and stir
until thickened. Remove from heat.
Peel potatoes. Slice thinly (I use a mandolin).
Peel onion and chop, or if you prefer, slice thinly and separate into
rings.
Layer half the potatoes and onions in a 2-quart (2.5L) casserole.
Pour half the sauce over;
Layer the rest of the potatoes and onions on top.
Cover with the rest of the sauce. Bake covered in 350F (180C)
oven for 60 minutes. Uncover and bake for 15-20 minutes or until
potatoes are tender.
