Check your camera’s eld of view
The eld of view is the area in which the camera can detect motion. You can set the eld of
view to Full (110 degrees), Wide (125 degrees), or Super Wide (160 degrees).
Arlo automatically corrects the image to reduce the sheye eect for each eld of view
setting.
Change the eld of view
You can set the eld of view to Full (110 degrees), Wide (125 degrees), or Super wide (160
degrees).

Position your camera to detect motion in
specic areas
You can mount and aim your Pro 5S 2K Spotlight Camera in dierent ways to optimize the
camera’s ability to detect motion in specic areas. The lower two-thirds of the cameras eld
of view is the motion-sensitive part of the image. Aim the camera so that any motion you wish
to detect appears within this part of the image.
If you want to monitor motion closer to the
camera, such as visitors to your front door,
mount the camera at least 6.5 feet (1.9
meters) high
*
and aim it so that visitors
appear in the lower two-thirds of the image.
This angle works well to avoid motion alerts for
movement in the top third of the image, such as
vehicles driving by.
To monitor motion occurring farther away,
such as children playing on a lawn, aim the
camera higher to frame the area within the
lower two-thirds of the image.
It’s best to position the camera so that motion
is moving from side-to-side across its eld
of view rather than directly toward or away
from the camera. Also, though the camera can
detect motion up to 25 feet (7.6 meters) away,
the best area for motion detection is 5 to 20
feet (1.5 to 6 meters) from the camera position.
*At 6.5 feet (2 meters) or higher, we recommend using the Arlo Outdoor Mount.

Use camera positioning to aim your camera
Camera positioning is available only when the camera is not streaming, recording motion, or
using the Motion Detection test. During camera positioning, the camera streams video as fast
as possible, without buering. You can aim your camera while watching on your smartphone
and making near real-time adjustments to the camera position. This means that you might
see lower-quality video while you are positioning your camera.
To position your camera:
1. Open the Arlo Secure App.
2. Tap Devices.
3. Select the camera.
4. Tap Device Utilities > Camera Positioning.
The camera starts streaming video. The signal strength bar indicates the Wi-Fi signal that
your camera is receiving at its current location.
Test motion detection
You can use the motion detection test to nd the right motion sensitivity setting for your
camera.
1. Open the Arlo Secure App.
2. Tap Devices.
3. Select your camera.
4. Tap Device Utilities > Motion Detection Test.
5. Move in front of the camera.
During this test, the LED blinks amber when motion is detected.
6. Move the slider to adjust the motion sensitivity level as needed.
This motion sensitivity setting is used during the motion detection test. It is not
automatically applied to the camera rules used by modes to arm your camera. When you
are satised with a particular motion sensitivity level in the test, note the setting so that
you can add it to your rules.
7. Edit the rule for your camera to enter the motion sensitivity level that you want to use. See
Change motion sensitivity on page 40.

Lower Power Mode is a feature that allows your Arlo device to extend its battery life by
automatically activating at a certain battery level.
When motion is detected and your camera is triggered to record, your camera will take a
snapshot of the motion.
You will receive a push notication about the snapshot and it’ll also be saved in your Feed.
If motion continues aer the snapshot is received, your camera will take additional
snapshots. The camera will wait at least ten (10) seconds between snapshots.
You can still view your cameras live stream by tapping on the push notication or from
within the Arlo Secure app.
If your Arlo Pro 5S 2K Camera is connected to an Arlo Home Security System with
SecureLink, the camera will only communicate using the SecureLink connection, to save
additional power.

Tips for optimal Wi-Fi performance
The distance between Wi-Fi devices can aect the Wi-Fi signal:
Maximum recommended distance. We recommend that you place your oodlgiht within
300 feet (90 meters) of your Wi-Fi router. The maximum line-of-sight range of 300 feet is
reduced by each wall, ceiling, or other major obstruction between the camera and the
router.
Minimum recommended distance. To reduce Wi-Fi interference, allow at least 6½ feet (2
meters) between your camera and any Arlo cameras that you install.
These materials can reduce Wi-Fi signal strength if they are located between Wi-Fi devices:
Unusually thick walls and ceilings
Brick
Concrete
Stone
Ceramic
Glass, especially mirrors
Metal
Large quantities of water, such as the water in a sh tank or water heater
Connect your mobile device to your Wi-Fi
network during setup
If you’re connecting your camera directly to your router’s Wi-Fi network, it’s important to
understand that your mobile device must connect to the same Wi-Fi network as the camera
during setup.
Your camera can connect to a 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Many routers broadcast Wi-Fi
networks in both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, so your phone might connect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi
band. During setup, connect your phone to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, then connect your
camera to that same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Find your Wi-Fi network name and password
If you’re not sure about how to nd the Wi-Fi network:
Look on your Wi-Fi router label.
Many routers have a label that shows the Wi-Fi network name, which is also called an
SSID. Your 2.4 GHz network name might have a 2, 2.4, or 2G at the end. Your 5 GHz network
21Wi-Fi Setup and Connections
Pro 5S 2K Spotlight Camera
User Manual
name might have a 5 or 5G at the end. If you changed your Wi-Fi settings, then check the
place where you saved your custom settings.
If your Wi-Fi network name or SSID doesn’t indicate whether it’s 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, ask your
internet service provider (ISP) or the person who set up your Wi-Fi router.
If you have a mesh Wi-Fi network, it uses only one Wi-Fi network name for both Wi-Fi
bands. The camera nds and connects to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band. As long as you connect
your phone to the same mesh network, Arlo can discover the camera.
Connect your camera to 5 GHz:
1. Launch the Arlo Secure app.
2. Tap Devices.
3. Select the name of your Arlo device.
4. Tap Connected to, directly below the Device On switch.
5. Tap Change Network at the bottom of the screen.
6. Follow the in-app instructions for your specic device or continue to the next step.
7. Go to your phone settings and make sure you are connected to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
8. Return to the Arlo Secure app.
9. Tap Continue to allow Arlo to nd the same 2.4 GHz network your phone is connected to.
10. Enter your Wi-Fi SSID and Password.
11. Press the Sync button on your device.
12. When the LED on the front of the Arlo device is ashing, tap Continue.

Detect audio alarms with your camera
To use Alarm Detection, you need an Arlo Secure subscription. For information about Arlo
Secure, visit What are the available Arlo subscription plans and how much cloud recording is
available?
Alarm Detection noties your Arlo Secure App when your camera detects the sound of a
smoke or carbon monoxide (CO) alarm going o. Your camera records until activity stops or
for the length of time you specify (up to a maximum of 300 seconds).
Compatible alarms
We recommend that you test the compatibility of your alarm with the Alarm Detection feature.
The Alarm Detection feature recognizes these alarms:
Smoke detectors with industry-standard T3 alarms (three intermittent beeps, followed by
a period of silence).
46Modes, Rules, and Alerts
Pro 5S 2K Spotlight Camera
User Manual
Carbon monoxide (CO) detectors with industry-standard T4 alarms (four intermittent
beeps, followed by a period of silence).
The Alarm Detection feature doesn’t detect alarms with other patterns.
Newer smoke detectors tend to emit a T3 alarm (three intermittent beeps followed by a
period of silence), and carbon monoxide detectors emit a T4 alarm (four intermittent beeps
followed by a period of silence).
Some examples of detector models that emit compatible T3 and T4 signals include:
Kidde i9050
USI5304
First Alert 0827
First Alert P1210
First Alert SCO5
To determine your detector’s alarm pattern, see the instructions that came with your detector
or search online for product information.
Prepare a location to test your alarm compatibility
We recommend that you test your alarm to nd out if it is compatible with the Arlo Alarm
Detection feature. Before beginning a test, make sure that:
Your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors can emit a continuous T3 or T4 pattern for
30 seconds during the test. If you’re not sure if the test button on your alarm can do this,
check the instructions that came with your alarm or search online for product information.
The alarm location doesn’t generate echoes and doesn’t have sounds that are louder than
the alarm.
There won’t be motion in your camera’s eld of view while you conduct the alarm test. If
the camera detects motion during the test, it might not be clear whether the camera also
detected the alarm.
Test your alarm for compatibility with Alarm Detection
1. During the test, place your camera within two feet of your alarm.
Aer a successful compatibility test, you can move your camera to a dierent location and
test the Alarm Detection range.
2. Open the Arlo Secure App.
3. Make sure that your camera is in Armed mode or another mode in which it can detect
sound and motion.

4. Tap Settings > Smart Notications.
5. Select a camera.
6. In the Audio Alerts section, select Smoke/CO Alarm and make sure that Other Audio is
turned o.
7. Close the Arlo Secure App, but don’t log out.
8. Use the test button on your smoke or carbon monoxide detector to activate the alarm for
30 seconds.
Compatible alarms sound continuously for 20 seconds in one of these patterns:
Smoke detectors with industry-standard T3 alarms emit three intermittent beeps,
followed by a period of silence.
Carbon monoxide (CO) detectors with industry-standard T4 alarms emit four
intermittent beeps, followed by a period of silence.
Alarm Detection test results
The following sections explain the test results.
Alarm Detection is working
You received an Audio Alert push notication from the Arlo Secure App on your mobile device
and a video clip labeled Smoke/CO alarm? is saved in your Arlo Library. This means that your
camera is within range of your alarm, and your alarm is compatible with the Alarm Detection
feature.
Note: Arlo cameras use battery power every time they record, so it’s important that you’re
aware when you have audio alert options turned on. You can purchase spare batteries and the
Arlo Dual Battery Charging station, sold separately, if desired.
Arlo recorded a video but didn’t notify you
If you don’t receive and Audio Alert push notication, but a video clip labeled Audio is saved
in your Arlo Library, your camera is within range of your smoke or CO detector, but it did not
recognize the sound pattern as a smoke or CO alarm.
You might not be notied for these reasons:
Your smoke or CO detector did not emit a continuous T3 or T4 alarm pattern.
There is too much background noise or an echo where your camera is located.
Your alarm is not compatible with the Alarm Detection feature.
We recommend that you perform the test again to conrm the results.

6. Access Your Arlo Account
Once you set up your Arlo account, you can access it by using the Arlo Secure App on a
smartphone or tablet, or from a computer using a web browser. If you’re using a computer,
enter https://my.arlo.com/#/login in the address bar of the browser.
Two-step verication
All Arlo users must have two-step verication enabled to access their account. This is to
protect your data and add an extra layer of security to your Arlo account. We recommend
setting up two-step verication as soon as you create your Arlo account, or as soon as the Arlo
Secure App prompts you to set up two-step verication.
Two-step verication helps protect your Arlo account by adding another step of
authentication when you log in. Arlo will verify your identity any time you sign in with a new
device. You can have up to ve dierent trusted devices, phone numbers, or email addresses
to verify your Arlo account login.
Note: Before you set up two-step verication, make sure that you can log in to the email
address associated with your Arlo account. Your account email is always used as a backup
option to log in to your account.
How two-step verication works
To sign in with two-step verication, you must rst correctly enter your email address and
password. Then, you must verify your identity with a security code (delivered by SMS text
message/email) or conrmation from an already trusted device. Requiring two pieces of
information helps to prevent any unwanted log in, even if someone has your Arlo account
password.
Trusted device push notications
You can trust a device on your account so that you never have to verify your log in with a push
notication or text message when you log in on the trusted device.
When a non-trusted device attempts to log in to your Arlo account on a new device, Arlo sends
a push notication to a trusted (and currently logged in) iOS or Android device. Tap the push

notication on the trusted device to approve or deny the log in. This is the simplest and most
secure option to get started with two-step verication.
SMS text message
When someone attempts to log in to your Arlo account, Arlo sends a text message to the
phone number that you veried for two-step verication. Enter the security code from the text
message to complete the log in.
Email
If you can’t access your account with a trusted device or push notications, or if you can’t
receive SMS text messages, you can request to have a security code sent to the email
associated with your Arlo account.

Enable or Disable Auto HDR
High Dynamic Range, also called HDR, is a soware method of adjusting high-contrast video
or photo images that include areas of bright highlight and deep shadow. Without HDR, in
some images light areas can appear washed out and dark areas can appear black without
detail. HDR makes it possible to see detail in both the highlights and shadows.
Your camera comes with an Auto HDR feature, which is turned on by default. When your
camera detects an image that would benet from HDR, it automatically applies HDR unless
you use the Arlo Secure App to disable Auto HDR.

Battery life
Your cameras battery lifespan varies depending on the number of motion triggers that occur
and how oen the camera activates.
Note: Cold temperatures can aect any battery’s capacity because of their chemistry. This
means that if you install your camera outside in cold temperatures, you might notice a shorter
battery duration, or a faster than expected drop in the displayed battery capacity.
To optimize the lifespan of your battery:
Select a location for your camera with a strong Wi-Fi signal.
A strong Wi-Fi signal typically requires less battery power than a weak Wi-Fi signal. You
can check the strength of the Wi-Fi signal from the Arlo Secure App.
81Arlo Rechargeable Battery
Pro 5S 2K Spotlight Camera
User Manual
If you use an optional Arlo SmartHub or base station, we recommend placing your camera
up to 300 feet away. For information about your router’s Wi-Fi range, check with the router
manufacturer or with your internet service provider (ISP) if they installed your router.
Your Arlo camera lets you choose the quality level of the video it records. Cameras set
to high-quality video recording use more battery power than cameras set to low-quality
video recording.
Fine-tune the position of your camera.
Angle the camera so that it only detects motion in areas of interest. This helps reduce
unwanted recordings and triggers from motion that occur in the background.
Set a schedule for your camera.
If you don’t need your camera to activate during all hours of the day, you can set it to wake
up and use battery power only during the hours when you need it. See Schedule when your
camera is armed on page 43.
If your router allows it, increase the DHCP lease renewal time.
Most routers are DHCP servers that assign IP addresses to the devices on their networks.
The DHCP lease is the length of time the devices can reserve an IP address on the network.
For example, a router might use a DHCP lease renewal time of 24 hours (1440 minutes).
Increasing the DHCP lease renewal time might reduce the network traic. For more
information, see the instructions from your router’s manufacturer or your ISP if they
installed your router.
Safe handling and usage guidelines for
removable and rechargeable batteries
Batteries can EXPLODE, CATCH FIRE, and/or CAUSE BURNS if disassembled, punctured, cut,
crushed, short circuited, incinerated, recharged (disposable cells), or exposed to water, re, or
high temperatures
To ensure optimal safety and performance:
Only use Arlo batteries. If you are unsure about whether a replacement battery or charger
is compatible, contact Arlo.
DO NOT use this battery for anything other than its intended purpose.
DO NOT use a battery if its case appears damaged, swollen, or compromised. Examples
include, but are not limited to, leaking, odors, dents, corrosion, rust, cracks, swelling,
melting, and scratches.
DO NOT disassemble, crush, puncture, short external contacts, or dispose of in re or
water.
DO NOT expose the battery to re or temperatures greater than 60°C (140°F). Do not place
82Arlo Rechargeable Battery

the battery next to areas which may become hot. Examples include, but are not limited to,
on or near a space heater, cooking surface, cooking appliance, iron, radiator, or replace.
DO NOT get the battery or the Arlo device wet. Even though they might dry and appear to
operate normally, the circuitry can slowly corrode and defeat its safety circuitry.
DO NOT place the battery in a pocket, purse, or other receptacle containing metal objects,
such as keys, jewelry, or tools.
DO NOT store the battery with hazardous or combustible material. Store in a cool, dry,
ventilated area.
ALWAYS keep the battery away from children.
DO NOT load the battery backwards. MAKE SURE the battery compartment is empty and
free of any moisture or loose debris before inserting the battery.
AVOID dropping the battery or the Arlo device. Dropping it, especially on a hard surface,
might cause damage to the battery or the Arlo device. If you suspect damage to the
battery or the Arlo device, replace it.
ALWAYS follow the directions in the Quick Start Guide and/or written in the Arlo Product
User Manual.
ALWAYS follow local waste and recycling laws and guidelines to dispose of used batteries.

12. Troubleshooting
Scan a QR code during setup
During setup, the camera must scan a QR code from the Arlo Secure App when you’re adding
the camera to your Wi-Fi network. If your camera doesn’t emit a chime sound aer scanning
the QR code, then the QR code wasn’t successfully scanned.
If your camera didn’t scan the QR code:
Move your mobile device farther from, or closer to, the camera lens.
Position your mobile device about 6 in. (15 cm) from the camera lens, and slowly move it
closer. If that doesn’t work, try moving your mobile device farther away. You can also try
dierent angles.
Decrease or increase the brightness on your mobile device.
Your mobile device’s brightness might be too high or too low for your camera to scan the
QR code.
If it’s dark outside, try setting the brightness on your mobile device to the 50% level.
If it’s bright outside, try raising the brightness on your mobile device to the highest level.
Disable Dark Mode if you’re using an iOS device.
In your iOS Settings, scroll down to nd and select Display & Brightness. Choose Light
mode under the Appearance options.
Scan the QR code in an evenly lit area.
Avoid scanning the QR code in the dark or in direct sunlight. If you are installing at night,
turn on porch lights. If your camera is exposed to direct sunlight during installation,
provide some shade.
Try using a mobile device with a larger screen ,such as a tablet or iPad, if available.
Clean the camera lens.
The camera lens might have debris or a smudge on it, hindering its ability to scan the QR
code. Try using a lint-free cloth to remove anything that might prevent the camera from
scanning the QR code.

Optimize multiple 2K streams
You might experience connectivity issues if you’re running multiple 2K live streams on your
Arlo Secure App. To optimize connectivity, check your network environment and adjust your
camera settings as needed.
Make sure your average bandwidth speed is at least 2 Mbps per camera.
Note: To check your Internet speed, visit www.speedtest.net. The result of the Internet speed
test might change, depending on varying amounts of traic. For accurate results, run the
speed test several times.
If you’re still experiencing connectivity issues aer checking your Wi-Fi connection and
Internet speed, do the following tasks until your connection is back to normal.
Adjust your camera settings in the Arlo Secure App:
1. Change the power management settings on each camera to Optimized.
2. Change the power management settings on each camera to Best Battery Life.
For more information, see Change the video quality and battery usage on page 59.
Can’t see video streams in a browser
Your router might be blocking the ports to which Arlo sends data. To make sure that Arlo can
stay connected, you must keep ports 443 and 80 open on your router.
To troubleshoot problems with the video stream, check for the conditions in the following
sections Wi-Fi signal interference on page 84
Wi-Fi signal interference on page 84, Out of range on page 85, and Low battery on page
85.
Wi-Fi signal interference
Environments with multiple Wi-Fi networks, Wi-Fi devices, or frequencies can cause signal
interference. If possible, minimize the number of networks, Wi-Fi devices, and transmitted
frequencies in the area where you place your camera. For help with adjusting Wi-Fi settings
such as the channel for your router, check the instructions that came with your router or
contact your Internet service provider (ISP) if they installed your router.
We recommend that you place your camera at least 1 to 3 feet (30 to 100 centimeters) from
your router or Arlo SmartHub or base station if you use one. Allow at least 6½ feet (2 meters)
between each camera or Arlo camera to prevent Wi-Fi signals between the devices from
interfering with each other.
85Troubleshooting
Pro 5S 2K Spotlight Camera
User Manual
Out of range
Make sure that your camera is close enough to receive a strong Wi-Fi signal. The range of
your router’s Wi-Fi signal can vary depending on the router model and conditions in your
local environment. If you pair your camera to an optional Arlo SmartHub or base station,
we recommend that you place the camera no farther than 300 feet (90 meters) from the
SmartHub or base station. The range might be less if metal objects or thick walls and ceilings
are between a camera and the SmartHub or base station.
Make sure that your cameras display three or four bars of signal strength in the area where
you intend to install them. The camera can work when signal strength is at one or two bars,
but might go out of range intermittently due to uctuations in the environment.
Low battery
A low battery can cause the camera to stream intermittently. It’s time to recharge the battery
or change it when the battery level is down to two bars on the Arlo Secure App Devices page.
