Community
Irvine, California was incorporated on December 28, 1971, and is one of the nation’s largest planned urban
communities. It is both a city of 266,000 and a suburb of Los Angeles. Most of the residents are engaged in
academic, business, managerial, or professional work. The Tustin Unified School District was established
July 1, 1972, however the legacy of Tustin’s schools dates back to the 1860’s, two decades before Orange
County became independent of Los Angeles.
School
Arnold O. Beckman High School (Beckman) opened as a new public high school in August 2004 with both
freshman and sophomore grade levels. Beckman located in the city of Irvine, rests in the heart of Orange
County. Beckman services the residential communities of Tustin, Irvine, and Santa Ana. The first graduation
took place June 14, 2007. Beckman proudly educates a diverse ethnic and socioeconomic community. The
community is an active and supportive one with tremendous involvement in the school’s many support
organizations.

o Hispanic or Latino: 22.3%
o White (non-Hispanic): 35.8%
21% are on the Federal lunch program.
BHS provides a challenging curriculum offering close and personal involvement between teachers, students
and parents. Courses are offered to develop academic abilities, artistic talents, and athletic skills.
